Walking Tour: Charlestown Navy Yard History and Art

  • Lot Lab 115 Constitution Road Charlestown, MA, 02129 United States (map)

Join the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk, Navy Yard Garden & Art, Inc., and artist Michael Alfano on a waterfront walk in the Charlestown Navy Yard. We will stroll through the Navy Yard with stops at historical buildings and Michael Alfano's sculptures that make up the public art exhibit Of Many Minds. The exhibit consists of 20 sculptures extending from the USS Constitution in the Boston National Historical Park to Mayor Menino Park at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Along the tour, we’ll stop by Now + There’s Lot Lab, to see installations by international artist Ghada Amer, local painter Massiel Grullon, and accelerator alum Samantha Fields.

A professional sculptor for over twenty years, Michael Alfano creates fine art bronzes, portraits, and monumental works that are figurative-based, philosophical, and evocative. His sculptures are found in galleries, private collections, parks, and museums around the globe.

Navy Yard Garden & Art, Inc. revitalizes and enhances public open spaces within the Charlestown Navy Yard including Shipyard Park through planning, design, programming, and implementation for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.

Friends of the Boston Harborwalk is a volunteer group affiliated with Boston Harbor Now. The group meets monthly to promote awareness, public enjoyment and local stewardship of Boston’s 43-mile Harborwalk.

This is a partner program, presented in partnership with Navy Yard Garden & Art, Inc. and Friends of the Boston Harborwalk.
