Dreams realized and journeys celebrated

Of Puerto-Rican descent, Yenny Hernandez wants to encourage all dreamers and create space to acknowledge the complexities present in the Latinx journey to dream fulfillment. A 2,500 square foot vinyl mural, “Ponle Vuelo A Tus Sueños/Let Your Dreams Take Flight”, enveloped the exterior of the Prudential Center facing Boylston Street offering visitors encouragement through vibrant colors, tropical foliage, and nostalgic imagery.

Designed to seize the gaze of viewers and lead the eye upward upon entering the building, the project stood as a celebration of what’s possible, exploring how uplifting words can help us transform and reframe our outlook on life. A recognition of journeys that include breaking through language, education, and socioeconomic barriers, this boundless work acted as a catalyst and a catcher encouraging us all to recommit and pursue our dreams. “Ponle Vuelo A Tus Sueños/Let Your Dreams Take Flight” was commissioned by Boston Properties (BXP) and curated by Now + There.

Yenny Hernandez is a Latinx award-winning graphic designer and muralist from the North Shore of Boston, now residing in Dorchester. Of Puerto Rican descent her work pulls from her heritage and is often infused with vibrant colors and tropical foliage.

Working in print, digital, and paint, Yenny’s work incorporates color, typography, and hand lettering. Her work includes messages of positivity, encouragement, and finding one’s voice. Striving to grow Latinx representation in design and illustration, her work has also begun to include Spanish and topics that speak specifically to the Latinx community.

Encouragement is one of the few forms of exchange that costs nothing yet holds the power to be priceless to others. From reminding us to dream to sparking us to accept ourselves in every shape, gender, life stage, and mental state, encouragement has the power to reframe our outlook on self, life and experience.

Yenny’s murals can be found in Salem, Chelsea, and Gloucester. Recent works include “A Dream Deferred,” 2021, “Hola Mi Gente,” 2020, “Make Today a Great Day,” 2021, and “Si Se Puede,” 2021. Her newest piece "Ponle Vuelo/Take Flight” will be unveiled at the Prudential Center in June.

“We feel the energy of the City of Boston every day, and there is no better way to celebrate and contribute to our reinvigorated city than through public art. We’re thrilled to build on our long-standing partnership with Now + There and once again use Prudential Center as a canvas to showcase diverse, local, emerging artists. Yenny’s inspiring message and vibrant mural will be the perfect addition to the “front door” of the Prudential Center – a warm and welcome sight for all those visiting Boston as well as those that call it home.”
