Yesterday, we brought copies of Faces of Dudley — the book commemorating Faces of Dudley the project with partners The Up Truck and Inside Out Project — to share with our friends at the Dudley Branch of the Boston Public Library. It didn’t take long for a small gathering to form around our table.
Library staff and regulars flipped through the pages, smiling, cooing and laughing. “Ooh look, Mr. and Mrs. Shelburne are both on the cover.” (They’re the couple featured in the project video who’ve lived in Roxbury all their 79 years.) It felt like yearbook day with everyone looking back and feeling a sense of pride and nostalgia.
While we wait for the Boston Public Library to officially accept the books and put them into circulation in Dudley, anyone can view or order the paperback version through Blurb for only $7.25.
Faces of Dudley was designed by our friends at good good with photo contributions by Ryan C. McMahon, Samara Pearlstein, and Hakim Raquib, and is offered at cost. No profits will be derived from this sale. But if you like our work and want to help us continue supporting community voice through art, please consider a tax-deductible donation to Now + There.
