“Asking public art to solve social problems is a lot, but it can ask questions; it can make people think.” - Artist Janet Zweig, quoted in The Boston Globe (Oct 22, 2021)
Thank you to the thousands of you who visited “What Do We Have in Common?” during its run in Boston Common. We hope you enjoyed grappling with Zweig’s challenging questions of ownership, and hopefully sharing your answers and thoughts with one of the Guides. Questions were intentionally open ended. Answers were never straightforward. Thanks to the facilitation of 12 local Guides and our partnership with the Friends of the Public Garden, we had hundreds of conversations — some silly, some sweet, some philosophical and many vulnerable. Watch the mini-documentary of this still-circulating project of ideas to dive deeper into how the many elements of this work came together.
We hope it will inspire you to continue asking own questions about the things that belong to anyone, no one and everyone. As always, share your thoughts with #InCommonBOS.
