Summer is heating up in Charlestown! Enjoy the ferry ride from Long Wharf Park to Charlestown and you’ll be steps away from Lot Lab.
We officially opened Lot Lab in June, unveiling two major installations by international artist, Ghada Amer, and Boston-based artist Massiel Grullon, while youth from Turn It Around helped raise flags they’d made with local artist Kyle Browne. During the opening, Accelerator alum, Sam Fields demonstrated the process of splicing nautical rope in preparation for her massive wall installation coming later this month.
Oyade the DJ kept the vibes with fun beats and sounds, while Amanda Shea and Chrystrian Dennis treated us to a guided intention setting ceremony of spoken word and performance.
Our opening was just the beginning of how you can engage with public art at Lot Lab. Coneflowers are blooming and blueberries are ripening on Ghada Amer’s Women’s Qualities; be sure to stay tuned for more information on Amer’s upcoming Artist Walk on July 22nd.
Stop by for family fun programs with a Knotical Waves art making day on July 5th and an all ages jam session by Company One Theatre on August 2nd. A Trike Called Funk ends the summer on a high note with an evening of interactive performance specializing in different street and club dance forms.
On August 5th, we’ll be celebrating the opening of Sam Field’s installation stay, Stay, with a nighttime immersive light installation by Illuminus.
While you’re visiting Lot Lab, be sure to connect with N+T Public Art Ambassadors (PAAs)—Daja, Isola, Grace, Alex, and Gabriele—who are available to answer any questions you might have about the projects and upcoming events. Check our TikTok to learn more about the PAAs and their love of public art in Boston.
We look forward to seeing you at Lot Lab very soon!
